Erich Vio
Erich Giorgio Vio (* 1910 in Fiume , Austria-Hungary ; † May 14, 1999 ) was a poet and doctor.
Life
Vio completed a medical degree and went to Shanghai in 1937. After internment in a Japanese camp from 1943 to 1945, he worked for many years as a surgeon at St. Mary's Hospital in Hong Kong. He is the founder of the company Dr. Vio & Partner. From 1974 he continued to practice medicine in Taiwan and South Africa.
In addition to his extensive medical activities, Vio was a writer. He wrote numerous poems and writings, which in 1990 earned him a nomination for the Nobel Prize for Literature. After his death, the no longer existing Dr. Erich Vio Institut 2004 for the first time the Dr. Erich Vio reading award.
