Erich Werner

Erich Werner (born June 16, 1928 - † August 25, 2016 ) was an Austrian bank manager .

From 1966 to 1972 he was managing director of the Upper Austrian State Mortgage Institution in Linz (Hypo Oberösterreich) and from 1973 to 1984 General Director of the Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft (ÖVAG).

Professional activity

Werner entered the service of the Upper Austrian State Mortgage Institution in Linz in 1953, where he became deputy director in 1960 and head director of this institute in 1966.

In 1972 he became a member of the Board of Management and on January 1, 1973, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Management of the Central Bank of Austria's Volksbanks (ZVÖ, later ÖVAG), which under his leadership was converted into a stock corporation and has been registered in the commercial register since 1974 as Österreichische Volksbanken-Aktiengesellschaft.

He initiated the establishment of the Gewerbefinanzierungs AG (issuing institute for the Volksbanken and the commercial goods and service cooperatives) and the general economic advisory and promotion company and acted as the managing director of the latter company.

He held positions on the supervisory board of Genossenschaftliche Zentralbank AG (GZB), on the management board of Gewerbe- und Handelsbank AG, on the supervisory board of Gewerbe-Management Ges.mbH and Volksbanken Raiffeisen Holding Ges.mbH as well as in Beteiligungsfinanzierungs AG and was a stock exchange advisor .

In his era, the Volksbank Academy was founded together with Ernst Ahammer.

Awards

Werner received the Great Silver Decoration for Services to the Republic of Austria and the Julius Raab Medal .
