Erich Zühlsdorf

Erich Zühlsdorf (born March 18, 1917 , † July 30, 1988 ) was a German photographer.

Zühlsdorf attended high school in Berlin. In 1931 he became a member of the Communist Youth Association. From 1932 to 1939 Zühlsdorf did an apprenticeship as a reprographer at Ullstein-Verlag and became a photo reporter. After being drafted into the labor service and the Wehrmacht, he fought in World War II . In April 1945 he was taken prisoner by the Soviets, where he joined an anti-fascist camp group. In 1948 he was delegated to an area anti-fascist school. In the same year he joined the SED and took a job as a photo reporter at ADN-Zentralbild . In 1951/52 he was head of the picture editing department there, and later a special correspondent abroad. From 1963 to the 1980s he worked as a trainer, mainly in Africa. In 1985 he received the honorary diploma in the journalistic competition of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship and the VDJ , and in 1987 he retired.
