Ricardo Chavarín (born July 3, 1951 in Atenguillo , Jalisco ), also known by the nickname El Astroboy (after a cartoon character ), is a retired Mexican football player in the position of a striker .

career

Chavarín began his professional career in 1969 with his hometown club Nacional in the second division . After two years with the Pericos , he moved to city ​​rivals Atlas in 1971 , who after his relegation suffered in the summer of 1971 in the 1971/72 season also only played in the Segunda División and with whom he succeeded in direct promotion to the Primera División .

During the 1975/76 season, Chavarín moved from the Rojinegros to the neighboring Universidad de Guadalajara , with whom he was runner-up in the Mexican league twice in a row in the 1975/76 and 1976/77 seasons. After his active career, Chavarín stayed with the university club for some time and worked in the management of the Leones Negros . He currently runs a baby products shop in downtown Guadalajara .

Between 1971 and 1979 Chavarín played a total of eleven international appearances for the Mexican national team and scored his only international goal for a 1-0 break in a test match played on August 1, 1975 against the GDR national soccer team , which was lost 3-2.

Trivia

Ricardo Chavarín is the father of the soccer player Mario Méndez , who in in Germany discharged in 2006 FIFA World Cup was a regular player in his home country.
