Rolf Sachsse (born April 28, 1949 in Bonn ) is a German photographer , author and professor at the Saar College of Fine Arts .

Life

Sachsse was born in 1949 as the son of the photographers Gerhard (1920–1998) and Erika Sachsse (* 1929). From 1955 he attended the Martin Luther School in Bonn, from 1959 the Ernst Moritz Arndt Gymnasium. In 1967 he passed his Abitur and began an apprenticeship as a photographer with Karl Hugo Schmölz and Walde Huth in Cologne . In 1970 he passed the journeyman's examination and then worked as an assistant for Cologne photographers.

In 1971 he began studying newspaper studies , German language and literature and art history in Munich , and in the following year he switched to studying art history, communication science and German language and literature in Bonn. In addition, he worked as a freelance photographer and began an artistic activity. In 1979 he began working as a freelance artist, author and exhibition organizer.

In 1983 he received his doctorate with the subject "Photography as a medium of architectural interpretation" in art history with Eduard Trier in Bonn. In 1985 he was appointed professor for photography in the design department of the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld , and from 1993 also for electronic image media. In 1994/95 he took over the professorship for Hans Belting at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe, where he has been an associate professor for theories of design ever since. In 2002 he took on a visiting professorship for theories of design at the Karlsruhe University of Design, and from 2004 to 2017 he was professor for design history and design theory at the HbK Saar. and there from 2013 to 2017 Vice Rector for Teaching and Science.

Sachsse is married and has one son. He lives in Saarbrücken and Bonn.
