Karl Hugo Schmölz (born October 6, 1917 in Weißenhorn , † October 22, 1986 in Lahnstein ) was a German photographer .

Life

After a previous photography apprenticeship with his father Hugo Schmölz in Cologne , he continued the photo workshop after his death in 1938. In 1956 he married the photographer Walde Huth and founded the “schmölz + huth” studio with her.

Due to the intensive cooperation with his father, the commissioned work could be continued after 1938 without interruption. After his military service, Karl Hugo Schmölz documented the destruction in Cologne with his large-format camera from a strictly factual perspective (cf. the emotional perspective of the almost simultaneous photos by Hermann Claasen ). In cooperation with the great architects of the Rhineland of his time (including Adolf Abel , Bruno Paul , Dominikus Böhm , Gottfried Böhm , Hermann von Berg , Wilhelm Riphahn , Rudolf Schwarz , Hans Schilling , Joachim Schürmann ), he created an impressive documentation of the reconstruction of Cologne . In addition, Schmölz processed advertising orders, in particular from the furniture industry (including Interlübke ). After his marriage, the studio also received orders from the fashion sector.

Karl Hugo Schmölz was buried in the family grave in Cologne's north cemetery (hall 10, grave no. 119a / b).
