Erich von Richthofen

Erich Freiherr von Richthofen (born May 8, 1913 in Hirschberg in the Riesengebirge , † 1988 ) was a German Romanist , Medievalist and Hispanist who worked in Canada.

life and work

Erich von Richthofen received his doctorate in 1940 in Frankfurt at Erhard Lommatzsch about Alfonso Martínez de Toledo and his Arcipreste de Talauera: A Castilian prose work of the 15th century (. Halle a S. 1941) and qualified as ibid 1943 with studies on Romanesque heroic saga of the Middle Ages (Hall a.p. 1944). In the 1950s he went first as an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton , and later at the University of Toronto , where Ulrich Leo already taught. In 1985 he received the Pierre Chauveau Medal of the Canadian Academy for his world-renowned mediaeval research.
