Erik Akkersdijk

Erik Akkersdijk (born October 7, 1989 in Enschede ) is a Dutch speedcuber . Akkersdijk has set numerous new world records since 2007, including the classic magic cube (3 × 3 × 3 cube).

Career

Akkersdijk claims that he started speedcubing in August 2005. He soon took part in national and international competitions. He achieved his first major tournament victory with the 3 × 3 × 3 cube at the Czech Open 2007. At the Dutch Open 2007 he set a world record of 9.77 seconds for the first time with the 3 × 3 × 3 cube. After this was further improved by Ron van Bruchem , Edouard Chambon and Yu Nakajima , he set a fabulous world record at the Czech Open in July 2008 with 7.08 seconds, which was to last for over two years before Feliks Zemdegs set it on November 13, 2010 undercut with 7.03 seconds. Erik Akkersdijk's world record attracted a lot of media attention. He was also a guest at Günther Jauch show Stern TV on German television. A video on YouTube, in which Akkersdijk set the world record, has been viewed by over 2.5 million users so far.

Akkersdijk also set world records with the 4 × 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 × 5 cube and with the Megaminx . So far, however, he has only won one world title, namely in 2007 with the Megaminx. Erik Akkersdijk became European champion in 2008 with the 4 × 4 × 4 and 5 × 5 × 5 cube, with the Megaminx and in solving the magic cube with his feet.
