Erik Ludvig Henningsen (born August 29, 1855 in Copenhagen ; † November 28, 1930 there ) was a Danish painter and illustrator.

Life

Henningsen was educated from 1873 to 1877 at the Royal Danish Academy for the Fine Arts (Det Kongelige Academie for de skjønne Kunster) in Copenhagen. His naturalistic style was characterized by a preference for dark colors and was initially determined by historical motifs, to which descriptions from big city life were added later. As part of a poster competition for the Tuborg brewery in 1900, he created his most famous work, the picture The thirsty man (Den tørstige mand) .
