Erik Heyden (born March 11, 1984 in Dresden ) is a German dance athlete (ballroom and Latin) and acting state sports supervisor of the Saxon state dance association.

Life

After completing school education with the Abitur, Heyden began studying architecture and geography at the Technical University of Dresden , which he successfully completed as a geographer . Erik Heyden is currently working in the field of renewable energies.

Dance sport

Erik Heyden developed a passion for dance at an early age . In 1988, at the age of 4, he took his first steps on the parquet of the youth center in Dresden-Cotta under the direction of Matthias Kläßig. Since then he has been continuously active in dance. In 1990 he changed to the dance group of the ice sports club Dresden with his partner at the time, Nicole Koch. The couple later switched to the Saxonia Dresden dance club , for which Erik Heyden played the first tournament in 1994. After further partner changes (including Jana Schöbel, Sindy Reimelt, Annett Müller) and his first successes in dance, he finally met Julia Luckow in May 2000. A few months later they began their dance partnership. With Luckow, he finally switched to TSC Excelsior Dresden e. V.

Over the next few years, the couple specialized in the supreme discipline of dance, the combined competition over all 10 tournament dances. While the couple was able to celebrate a large number of national successes in their youth (up to 18 years), main group (up to 28 years) and main group II (up to 35 years), they made their international breakthrough with reaching the senior class. In 2018, the couple became German combined champions for the first time at the German Seniors Championship. Also in 2018 the couple became German champions of the individual discipline Latin. Erik Heyden and Julia Luckow are among the few couples in the history of the German Dance Sport Association (DTV) who managed to win both the combined title and the individual title in one year. Other national and international titles followed. Also in 2018 they won the vice world championship in combination in the Romanian city of Sibiu as well as 1st place at the Northern European Championship in Dresden. In 2019 Erik and Julia became world champions in combination for the first time in Szombathely, Hungary. The title defense in 2020 was unfortunately not successful. In Lyon, France, they reached 3rd place at the World Cup and were able to at least complete their set of medals.

The couple were also competitive in the individual disciplines. After winning the German Cup of the Main Group II Latin in 2017 in Düsseldorf , they became the German Senior I Latin Champion for the first time in 2018. In 2019 you were able to successfully defend the title.

The couple is part of the Saxon regional squad and Team13 Latin.

In addition to the active tournament sport, Erik Heyden is voluntarily active in dance sport. After eight years on the board of TSC Excelsior Dresden, he moved to the board of the State Dance Association of Saxony in 2017. There he works as a state sports warden.
