Erik Meijs

Erik Meijs (born April 20, 1991 in Zoetermeer ; † November 16, 2017 in Duisburg , Germany ) was a Dutch badminton player .

Career

Erik Meijs was the 2010 Dutch junior champion in men's singles. A year later he won bronze in the same discipline among the adults. In 2013 he repeated this placement. At the international level he started at the Belgian International 2009 , the Korea International 2009 , the Swedish International Stockholm 2010 , the Portugal International 2010 , the Slovenia International 2010 , the Hungarian International 2010 , the Italian International 2010 , the Estonian International 2011 , the Austrian International 2011 , the German Open 2011 , the Croatian International 2012 , the Austrian International 2012 , the Estonian International 2012 , the Denmark International 2012 and the Swedish International Stockholm 2012 . In 2013 he took part in the German Open . Erik Meijs was the Dutch champion in men's singles in 2016 .

On November 16, 2017, he was the victim of a rear-end collision with a truck in his car on Autobahn 3 near Ratingen and succumbed to serious injuries at the Duisburg Accident Clinic .
