Erik Vankeirsbilck

Erik "Rik" Vankeirsbilck (born January 11, 1935 in Ingelmunster , West Flanders ) is a former Belgian politician of the Christelijke Volkspartij (CVP).

Life

Vankeirsbilck was initially active in local politics and between 1971 and 1991 was mayor of his hometown Ingelmunster. During his tenure as mayor, the town twinning with the North Rhine-Westphalian municipality of Hüllhorst was concluded in 1979 .

In addition, he was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Deputies for the first time in 1973 , where he represented the interests of the CVP.

On January 10, 1988, he became President of the Chamber of Deputies and held this position until May 10, 1988. On May 13, 1997, a portrait of Vankeirsbilck, painted by Hans Laagland, who is now Honorary Mayor of Ingelmunster, was unveiled in the House of Representatives building.
