Erika Spiegel
Erika Spiegel (born October 24, 1925 in Berlin ; † September 9, 2017 in Heidelberg ) was a German social scientist and urban sociologist .
Life
Erika Spiegel, daughter from the marriage of the lawyer Fritz Jacket and his wife Augusta Millas, studied sociology, economics as well as modern history and public law at the University of Heidelberg. In 1956 she was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1958 she became a research assistant at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt am Main. In 1963 she moved to the List Society at the University of Basel and was engaged in the research assignment for the planning and development of the new cities in Israel. From 1966 to 1968 she was a research assistant in the urban research department of the city of Hanover.
In 1968 she was offered a professorship for Sociological Basics of Spatial Planning at the University of Dortmund , making her the first female professor at this university. In 1978 she took over the management of the German Institute for Urban Studies (DIFU) in Berlin, the largest community science institute in Germany, a joint institution of the federal government, the State of Berlin and more than 100 German cities and regional / surrounding areas. In 1981 he was appointed to the professorship for the social science principles of urban planning at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg . After her retirement in 1993, she worked as a freelancer in Heidelberg.
From 1972 to 1977 and 1984 to 1990, Spiegel was a member of the executive board of the German Academy for Urban Development and Regional Planning, and 1991/92 Vice President of the Academy for Spatial Research and Regional Planning - Leibniz Forum for Spatial Sciences . In 1995 she became a member of the planning council of the city of Mannheim.
