Black Legion (Ustasha) commemorative badge

The Black Legion's commemorative badge ( Croatian Spomen-znak Crne legije ) is an award of the Independent State of Croatia , donated in 1943 . Which was awarded badges in recognition of the military achievements of the so-called "Black Legion" , an elite military unit of the Ustasha - militia .

All members of the "Black Legion" and other military formations who had participated in the fighting against "the rebels on the eastern border of Croatia" between February 1942 and April 9, 1942 had the right to wear. On April 9, 1942, after heavy fighting, the Black Legion reached the Drina River , the then eastern border of the Independent State of Croatia with Serbia .

The 6 × 6 cm badge was worn on the left breast pocket; attached with a vertical fibula on the back. It has the shape and appearance of a split escutcheon. The first field is filled with a stylized brick wall; overlying the national coat of arms . The second field is filled with the stylized representation of the Drina River with the field heading DRINA . Both fields are overlaid by a knife with the blade label SLOBODA (FREEDOM) pointing from the first field into the second field . The inscription CRNA LEGIJA (BLACK LEGION) is located along the bottom of the entire coat of arms . It is made of inferior metal and colored with lacquer paint. The manufacturer was the Braća Knaus company in Zagreb .

As confirmation of the award, the winner received a card-shaped certificate with a photo.
