The commemorative medal of the Hungarian people's uprising ( hu. Emlékérem mellszalaggal ) is an award of the Republic of Hungary , which was donated by parliament in 1991 in memory of the people's uprising of 1956 . It could be awarded to all those people who, in the course of the popular uprising, stood up for a democratic and independent Hungary with gun in hand, or whose ideals were limited or who fell. The awards are now considered complete. About 6000 medals were awarded to those involved and about 1200 medals with mourning ribbon.

Appearance

The silver-plated medal with a diameter of 38 mm shows on its obverse two diagonally crossed swords pointing upwards in the middle, in front of which the embossed coat of arms of the state , a double cross that stands on the three mountain , can be seen. The coat of arms is enclosed by a chain that is open at the top as a sign of oppression. The chain itself is surrounded by two linden branches, on which seven linden leaves can be seen on each side. Its upwardly curved branches are open and show the year 1956 between their upper ends . The reverse shows the four-line embossed inscription A / HAZÁÉRT / ÉS A / SZABADSÁGÉRT (For the Fatherland and Freedom) under which three linden leaves can be seen.

Carrying method

The medal is worn on the upper left side of the chest of the borrower on a white 40 mm wide triangular ribbon in which a red-white-green vertical central stripe is woven on both sides 5 mm from the hem, with the color red on the outside. The width ratio for these colors is 2.5 to 2.5 to 2.5 mm. The mourning ribbon for the bereaved is black in its basic color and otherwise identical to the main ribbon.
