The commemorative medal to the recovery of southern Hungary ( hu. Délvidéki Emlékérem ) was on September 4, 1941 the Hungarian regent and head of state Miklos Horthy donated in memory of the recovery of southern Hungary. It was awarded to all those involved in the Hungarian armed forces who were present during the occupation of the area. According to the date of its foundation, it was the last of three commemorative medals that had been donated on the occasion of the Hungarian territory expansion.

Appearance, texture and way of wearing

The medal is matt gray and shows the equestrian image of the Hungarian King Johann Hunyadi with his name in the center of its obverse . This symbolism is encircled by the circular: MAGYAR.DÉLVIDÉK.VISSZAFOGLALÁSA.EMLÉKÉRE. (TO REMEMBER THE REOCATION OF SOUTHERN HUNGARY). The reverse of the medal shows three coats of arms, with the Hungarian royal coat of arms overhanging the other two. Here, too, the edge of the medal is embossed with inscription on which can be read: VITÉZ.NAGYBÁNYAI.HORTHY.MIKLÓS.KORMÁNYZÓSÁGÁNAK.XXII.ÉVÉBEN . 1941 (IN THE 22nd YEAR OF THE REGENCY OF VITÉZ NIKOLAUS HORTHY VON HORTHY was worn as the medal Triangular ribbon over the left breast pocket on a 38 mm wide half blue / yellow ribbon.
