The commemorative medal for the defense of Slovakia ( sk. Medaila za obranu Slovenska ) was founded in 1939 by the President of the 1st Republic, Jozef Tiso , and was a commemorative medal in honor of national defense, which came in two types.

Appearance

The obverse of the shield-shaped bronze medal shows a raised embossed sword in the middle, which is wrapped in a ribbon with the inscription 1939 . Also wrapped in ribbon is a bay leaf on the left of the sword and a linden leaf on the right. The reverse of the medal was available in two versions, which only differ in the inscription located there. On the one hand there was the medal in memory of:

  • the fighting against Hungary with the Slovak inscription V marci 1939 (In March 1939) as well as the
  • the September battles 1939 also in the Slovak inscription Javorina Drava .

Carrying method

The medal was worn on the left side of the chest on a ribbon in the Slovak national colors.
