The Matthias Erzberger Memorial is a museum in honor of the center politician Matthias Erzberger in the Münsingen district of Buttenhausen . The exhibition is located in Erzberger's birthplace and was developed by the House of History Baden-Württemberg . The then Baden-Württemberg State Minister Christoph Palmer is considered to be the pioneer of the memorial .

history

In June 2001, the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg, Erwin Teufel , suggested in a government statement that a memorial should be built for Matthias Erzberger. The city of Münsingen acquired Erzberger's birthplace in what is now the district of Buttenhausen. With funds from the State Foundation, the Wüstenrot Foundation, the Bausparkasse Wüstenrot, the Landesbank Baden-Württemberg Foundation and the Reutlingen district, the house was renovated, converted and furnished.

The House of History Baden-Württemberg was commissioned to develop and realize an exhibition on the life of Matthias Erzberger . The exhibition design was done by Atelier Brückner in Stuttgart.

On September 20, 2004, the memorial was opened by Prime Minister Teufel. The city of Münsingen is responsible for the memorial site. The House of History Baden-Württemberg is in charge of the exhibition, while the Münsingen History Association is responsible for supervision and guided tours.

Blackboard at the birthplace

The exhibition tells of the life of the politician Matthias Erzberger in eleven stations. In the house where he was born, scenic rooms with original exhibits should make historical contexts tangible and tell of Erzberger's political work and the contested memory of him.
