Eriosyce strausiana is a species of plant in the genus Eriosyce from the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Eriosyce strausiana grows individually with spherical to elongated shoots and reaches heights of up to 20 centimeters with diameters of 8 to 15 centimeters. Your head is bald. The fibrous roots arise from short tap roots . There are twelve to 14 blunt ribs that are partially notched. The grayish black to dark horn-colored thorns are mostly strongly curved upwards. The one to eight central spines are 3 to 4 centimeters long, the eight to 14 radial spines 2.5 to 3 centimeters long.

The broad, funnel-shaped, (dirty) yellow flowers appear from young areoles. They are 3.5 to 4 inches long and 3.5 to 5 inches in diameter. Your pericarpel and the flower tube are covered with wool and bristles. The short, egg-shaped, greenish fruits are thin-walled and tear open at a basal pore. They are 7 to 10 millimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Eriosyce strausiana is common in central Argentina . The distribution area extends from the province of San Juan to the north of the province of Río Negro . It was first described as Echinocactus strausianus in 1901 by Karl Moritz Schumann . Fred Kattermann placed them in the genus Eriosyce in 1994 .

A distinction is made between the following varieties:

  • Eriosyce strausiana var. Pachacoensis (Rausch) Katt.
  • Eriosyce strausiana var. Strausiana

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
