Rüdiger König

Rüdiger König (born April 8, 1957 in Bonn ) is a German diplomat . Since 2015 he has been head of the crisis prevention, stabilization, post- conflict rehabilitation and humanitarian aid department at the Federal Foreign Office . From August 2010 to September 2013 he was Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kabul , Afghanistan and then head of the Crisis Response Center in the Federal Foreign Office.

Life

After graduation (1977) studied King Political Science , heads of state and international law , and sociology at the University of Bonn and graduated with a master's from.

On April 1, 1986, König joined the Foreign Service. In 1989 his first assignment abroad followed at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York . After returning to the Foreign Office in Bonn as a consultant in the United Nations Department from 1992 to 1996, he worked from 1997 to 1999 as a consultant for Afghanistan at the German embassy in Islamabad , Pakistan . From 1999 to 2002, König was Deputy Head of Unit in the United Nations Department at the Foreign Office and in 2001 was a member of the German delegation to the Petersberg Conference on Afghanistan. From 2002 to 2004 he headed the office of Federal President Johannes Rau in Berlin ; in the same function he worked for Rau until 2006 after he left office. He then worked until 2008 as head of the political department of the permanent mission to NATO in Brussels . Afterwards, König took over the management of the Afghanistan-Pakistan special staff in the Foreign Office.

From August 2010 to September 2013 he was the successor to Werner Hans Lauk as Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kabul . On August 12, 2013, he was awarded the Mir Masjidi Khan Order by the Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmay Rassoul . His successor as ambassador to Afghanistan was Martin Jäger , who was previously head of the Global External Affairs and Public Policy department and chief lobbyist of the Daimler car company .

After finishing his work in Afghanistan, he took on a position in the Federal Foreign Office as a representative for the United Nations and human rights. He also gave lectures on his work in Afghanistan at the Technical University of Berlin .

König is married and has one child.
