Werner Hans Lauk

Werner Hans Lauk (born December 17, 1950 in Altensteig ) is a German diplomat . From 2010 to 2013 he was Consul General in Hong Kong , from 2013 to 2016 Ambassador in Bucharest , Romania .

Life

After graduating from high school , Lauk did his community service at the Waiblingen district hospital from 1969 to 1971 and then studied economics and political science at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the University of Regensburg , which he graduated with a degree in economics.

He joined the Foreign Service in 1977 and, after completing his career test in 1979, was initially employed as a consultant in the cultural department of the Foreign Office in Bonn and then from 1981 to 1983 as a cultural consultant at the embassy in Caracas , Venezuela . After his return to Germany he was a consultant in the department for foreign trade and development policy of the Foreign Office and then from 1986 to 1991 head of the economic service at the embassy in Prague , Czechoslovakia , before he was deputy head of the department in the department for foreign trade and development policy until 1996 of the Foreign Office.

After serving as permanent representative of the ambassador in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia from 1996 to 2001 , he became head of division in the Foreign Cultural and Educational Policy Department of the Foreign Office and was then head of the economic department of the embassy in Beijing , People's Republic of China, between 2004 and 2008 .

In 2008 Werner Hans Lauk was appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic in Kabul . There he previously headed the task force “Winter Aid Afghanistan” set up by the federal government and opened a German police training center in Mazār-i Sharif . During his tenure, a suicide attack was carried out on the German embassy in Kabul in January 2009, in which three embassy employees were also injured.

In August 2010 he was appointed Consul General in Hong Kong, while Rüdiger König , the previous head of the Afghanistan-Pakistan Special Staff at the Foreign Office, became the new Ambassador in Kabul, Afghanistan . In 2013 he left this post and became the new German ambassador in Bucharest , Romania .
