Erkki Aukusti Junkkarinen (born April 22, 1929 in Suonenjoki , Finland , † April 9, 2008 in Hämeenlinna , Finland) was a Finnish singer.

Live and act

He was best known for his record Yksinäinen harmonikka in 1950 , but his popularity began to wane in the years that followed. Junkkarinen only recorded one record in the 1960s, Ruusut hopeamaljassa , which had little success at the time. In 1975 he published the same songs under the slightly changed name Ruusuja hopeamaljassa . The new edition sold very well, and Junkkarinen received the first ever Finnish platinum record for it in 1975. So he rose to extraordinary fame and started a new Humppa wave in Finland in the late 1970s .

In the following decade, Junkkarinen's fame quickly waned and he stopped making records. However, he continued to perform live. Junkkarinen was also known for his skill in whistling .
