Erl-Bräu is a German brewery based in Geiselhöring . In 2008 their output was 25,000 hl.

history

In 1871 Ulrich Erl (born March 27, 1831) acquired the Mayer brewery in Geiselhöring . During this time he also became deputy as a member of the Patriot Party of the Bavarian parliament elected. Until his death on March 6, 1883, he continuously expanded the brewery and acquired beer delivery rights and inns .

After the death of his father, Ludwig Erl (born June 18, 1858) took over the brewery and associated restaurants from his mother Helene Erl in 1891. In 1901 the Erl brewery moved from the town square to its current location on Straubinger Straße. Ludwig Erl ran the brewery until his death on December 25, 1918.

In 1924 Josef Erl (born March 18, 1896) took over his father's brewery. Josef Erl ran the Erl brewery together with his wife Walburga until his death on October 12, 1961. During this time, other inns were acquired. From July 1, 1962 to December 31, 1997, Ludwig II. Erl (born July 18, 1925) managed the brewery. These years were marked by an enormous boom in the brewery. All brewery facilities were built and expanded, and the output was continuously increased.

The brewery has been represented at the second largest folk festival in Bavaria , the Gäubodenvolksfest in Straubing , since 1977 .

Since January 1st, 1998, master brewer Ludwig III. Erl (born March 14, 1955) founded the private Erl brewery in Geiselhöring.

Since November 1st, 2014, Josef II. Erl has been working as the 6th generation master brewer in the family business. His brother Christopher Erl runs the brewery inn on the town square in Geiselhöring.

In the anniversary year 2016, Erl-Bräu was awarded two gold medals as the most successful Bavarian brewery at the European Beer Star, and no better result was achieved at the German level either.

The Erl family can be traced back to the 16th century. In the 1583 draft book of the Marquardstein Regional Court it says "Valentin Erl, young, strong blacksmith from Holzhausen, armed with sword and spear". His son Sebastian Erl (* before 1600) moved to Geiselhöring in 1639.
