Erlefried Hoppe
Erlefried Hoppe (born April 16, 1910 in Nuremberg ; † October 18, 1992 ) was a German sculptor .
biography
His father was F. Otto Hoppe. He grew up in Widdert, a district of Solingen . He was a student of Paul Woenne at the metal college there . He then studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Ewald Mataré . In 1933 he settled down as a freelance sculptor in Cologne and from 1948 worked for the Cologne cathedral builder for thirty years . He designed over forty figures, angels and saints, gargoyles, finials and keystones with personalities. Since 1967, eight 4.10-meter-tall angels designed by Hoppe have been attached to the newly designed crossing tower of Cologne Cathedral in the Art Deco style . Other well-known works by Hoppe are the Liëwerfrau (delivery woman) statue at Fronhof Solingen and his Dickes Gummibärchen in Ohligs .
