Erling Aastad (full name Erling Rudolf Aastad , born March 2, 1898 in Oslo , † June 30, 1963 ibid) was a Norwegian athlete .

Erling Aastad, who started for the clubs Fagforeningernes TIF and Torodd IF , was active both as a sprinter and as a long jumper. In 1925 he was runner-up in Norway over 100 meters. His best time was 10.9 seconds, which he achieved on August 23, 1925 in Trondheim at the runner-up championship. Aastad was also used in the Norwegian sprint relay since 1920. On September 11, 1920 the season with the cast Bjarne Guldager, Aastad, Asle Bækkedal and Rolf Stenersen ran with 43.2 seconds as fast as no national relay before it. This record lasted for almost 15 years.

Aastad was more successful as a long jumper. Seven times he was Norwegian champion, six times in a row. He celebrated the first championship in 1920. It wasn't until five years later that he succeeded in winning the second championship title. He successfully defended the title five times. On September 4, 1921, he set a new Norwegian national record of 7.22 meters in Oslo, which was only broken in August 1922. On August 12, 1925, Erling Aastad jumped the Norwegian national record again with 7.45 meters. This time the record lasted nine years.

The Norwegian NOK nominated Erik Aastad for participation in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp . On August 17th, Aastad competed in the long jump. With 6.62 m he finished sixth and qualified for the final on the same day. In the final he improved to 6.885 m (measured in the Anglo-American system of measurement) and was fifth in the end. On August 21st, the Norwegian sprint relay with Bjarne Guldager, Aastad, Asle Bækkedal and Rolf Stenersen was disqualified in the preliminary run.

Aastad also took part in the 1924 Games in Paris and 1928 in Amsterdam . In both cases, however, he only competed in the long jump. In Paris on July 8, 1924, he reached 13th place with a width of 6.72 m. In Amsterdam, his 7.07 m was only 14th on July 31, 1928.

After his active career, Erling Aastad worked from 1945 to 1949 as a manager and accountant in the finance department of the Norwegian athletics federation NFIF ( Norges Friidrettsforbund ). Later he worked in a technical company. Erling Aastad died on June 30, 1963 in Oslo.
