Ernest Burnelle
Ernest Burnelle (born July 12, 1908 in Liège ; † August 6, 1968 ibid) was a Belgian politician and chairman of the Communist Party of Belgium ( French Parti Communiste de Belgique ).
Life
Burnelle - a teacher by profession - joined the Communist Party of Belgium in 1938. During the German occupation of Belgium (1940-1944) he participated in the resistance. After the liberation he became editor of the central organ of the KP Le Drapeau Rouge (Eng. "The Red Flag"). Since 1946 Burnelle was a member of the Central Committee, since 1954 a member of the Politburo of the CP of Belgium. From 1951 to 1953 he was First Secretary of the Liège Party Association. From 1946 to 1968 he was a member of the Liège municipal council ( French Conseil Communal ). From 1946 to 1949 and from 1965 to 1968 he was also a member of the Belgian parliament ( French Chambre des Représentants de Belgique ) for the Arrondissement of Liège. From 1961 until his death he was chairman of the CP of Belgium.
