Ernest Kaltenegger (* 28. November 1949 in Rötsch for shelter ) is a Styrian KPÖ - politicians . He was councilor for housing in the Styrian state capital Graz and from 2005 to 2010 a member of the state parliament of the KPÖ state parliament club.

Career

Kaltenegger grew up in poverty and trained at the Judenburg public utility company. In 1972 he went to Graz. Kaltenegger describes himself as an atheist. His worldview is his compass.

From 1965 to 1968 he was chairman of the Socialist Youth in Obdach. From 1970 to 1971 he was district chairman of the SJ in Judenburg. In 1972 he became chairman of the Communist Youth in Graz and was then State Secretary of the Communist Youth of Austria - Young Left. From 1981 he was a member of the Graz City Council, from 1998 to 2005 he was the City Councilor for Housing in Graz. In the Styrian state elections in autumn 2005, he was the top candidate of the KPÖ, which received 6.3 percent of the vote and thus moved back into an Austrian state parliament for the first time since 1970. On March 30, 2009, Kaltenegger announced that he would retire to the "second row". Kaltenegger justified his step by saying that it was time "for new momentum to come in". He also cited health problems as another reason.

From 1998 onwards, Kaltenegger donated more than half of his income as a politician to social causes and once a year gave an account of the use made on the so-called “Open Accounts Day”.

Kaltenegger is divorced and has one child.
