Ernest-Louis "Picq" Pichio (born in Paris in 1826 ; died in Paris in 1893 ) was a French artist.

life and work

Ernest-Louis Pichio was born in Paris in 1826. As a painter, he specialized in history and portraits. He exhibited in many salons between 1864 and 1870. In 1870 he sent a work to the Salon d'Automne entitled: La mort d'Alphonse Baudin (The Death of Alphonse Baudin). During the Paris Commune in 1871 he fought on the barricades. During this time he is a member of the Commission Fédérale des Artistes (Federal Artists' Commission). He created many works in honor of the Paris Commune. We owe him several works on the theme of the commune, including Le Triomphe de l'ordre (The Triumph of Order) and La Veuve du fusillé (The Widow of the Shot). He is buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery.
