Ernesto Paolo Abbate (born September 6, 1881 in Noicattaro , † April 26, 1934 in Martina Franca ) was an Italian conductor and composer . His compositions for the Italian Banda are known .

Life

Ernesto Abbate received music lessons from his father Biagio Abbate and his older brother Gennaro Abbate . At the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella he studied composition with Nicola D'Arienzo (1842–1915) and Camillo De Nardis (1857–1951). He conducted the wind orchestras of San Ferdinando di Puglia and Soleto before taking over the leadership of the Squinzano band from 1919. In 1929 he won a competition with the Banda in Bologna. They interpreted La Sagra the Fiori and a fantasy about La Traviata . On April 8, 1929 he became an honorary citizen there. He fell seriously ill in February 1932 and called Gennaro to persuade him to take over the banda. Thereupon Gennaro renounced his international conducting career and took over the band as Ernesto's successor for another twenty years until his own death in 1954.
