Ernie Bushmiller

Ernest Paul Bushmiller (born August 23, 1905 in New York City , † August 15, 1982 in Stamford (Connecticut) ) was an American comic artist . He was best known for his comic strip Nancy .

Life

When he was 14, Bushmiller worked as an errand boy for the New York World newspaper . At night he took art classes at the National Academy of Design . Around 1925 Bushmiller was commissioned to take over the comic strip Fritzi Ritz , which Larry Whittington had previously drawn and now wanted to give up. Bushmiller agreed and continued the series for years. In 1933 Fritzi's niece Nancy appeared on the scene. The figure was well received and has now been seen several times, finally the entire series was renamed Nancy in 1938 . The comic strip about the clever and dreamy 8-year-old girl was a great success, it was translated into several languages ​​and got its own series of magazines. Even in 1979 - when Bushmiller was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease - he continued to draw with the help of an assistant. He died in 1982.
