Ernie Copland (born October 14, 1924 in Montrose , † December 1971 in Elizabeth ) was a Scottish football player . The striker was part of the Scottish national team at the 1954 World Cup .

Career

Copland comes from the youth of Montrose Roselea , known for his youth work , from 1948 he played in Scottish professional football. After short stays at FC Arbroath and FC Dundee , he played for the Raith Rovers from 1951 . There he scored 105 goals in 178 games by the end of his career in 1958. In the summer of 1954 he was appointed to the 22-player squad for the World Cup finals in Switzerland, but was not one of the only 13 players who actually made it to the finals. The selection committee of the Scottish Association appointed him three years later for qualifying games for the 1958 World Cup again in the national team, but he remained without playing.

After his footballing career, Copland moved to Australia with his wife and two children in the late 1950s. There he worked as an engineer on the Woomera Rocket Range . He died in December 1971 in Elizabeth, South Australia .
