Erno Paasilinna (born March 14, 1935 in Petsamo , † September 30, 2000 in Tampere ) was a Finnish author and journalist .

He has received several literary prizes, the most important of which was the Finlandia Prize , which he received in 1984 for his collection of essays “ Yksinäisyys ja uhma ” (“Loneliness and Defiance”). His works have been translated into Estonian, Hungarian, Swedish, Norwegian and Russian.

Erno Paasilinna has been described as a “national cynical laureate” and “official critic of the state” because of his uncompromising views and the lack of admiration for his fellow men. His sharp analysis of power and the powerful shook the foundations of Finnish society, but was generally recognized as impartial: with his criticism he spared neither those who were ideologically close to him, nor those whose ideology was completely contrary to his view.

The author Arto Paasilinna and the MEP Reino Paasilinna are his brothers.
