Ernst Engeland (born September 6, 1853 in Gilserberg , † June 1, 1925 in Bremen ) was a Bremen politician ( SDAP , SAP , SPD ) and member of the parliament.

education and profession

Engeland was the son of a farmer, attended elementary school and learned the trade of a coppersmith . Since the 1880s he has been an innkeeper in Bremen, since 1906 owner of an institute for naturopathy and a spa in Bremen.

politics

Engeland became a member of the SDAP in 1874, the predecessor party of the SPD, which was banned in 1875 by the Socialist Workers' Party of Germany (SAP) and in 1878 by the Socialist Law . Even before the Socialist Act he was a leading party functionary in Bremen. In 1876 he was a co-founder of the Bremer Freie Zeitung , from 1879 with the Bremer Morgenzeitung and since 1879 with the Bremische Volkszeitung , which was banned under the Socialist Law. He had to work illegally for the party during the prohibition period until 1890.

In the 12th and 13th electoral periods from 1902 to 1908 he was a member of the Bremen citizenship for the SPD .
