Ernst Girschner

Ernst Girschner (born October 29, 1860 in Torgau ; † April 28, 1914 there ) was a German teacher and entomologist.

Ernst Girschner was the son of an Oberland surveyor. He attended grammar school in Meiningen , then the teachers' seminar in Hildburghausen and the Royal Art School in Berlin . In 1888 he came to the grammar school in Torgau as a trial candidate and was appointed grammar school teacher for drawing and natural sciences the following year. He worked in this position for 25 years.

As a child he was interested in the natural sciences. He collected insects, but soon turned exclusively to the Diptera and published numerous articles on this in the Entomologische Zeitung Stettin , the Wiener Entomologische Zeitung , the Entomologische Nachrichten and other magazines. In 1887 he published a monograph on the European Alophora species. He later sold his dipteran collection to J. Colbran Wainwright in Handsworth.

Ernst Girschner suffered from a thyroid disease and died of heart paralysis.
