Höltzer brought the photo plates to Germany after his retirement, where they were forgotten. It was not until 1969 that around 1,000 photographic glass plates were found by chance packed in five wooden boxes in the house of a granddaughter of Höltzer. Copies of these photos came into the possession of Mohammad Assemi, who sent them to the Ministry of Culture in Tehran. A selection first appeared in 1976 under the title Persia 113 Years Ago and in 2004 under the title Thousand Sights Of Life .
