Ernst Heimes (born March 24, 1956 in Cochem -Cond) is a German writer and cabaret artist . He lives in Löf on the Moselle . He has been the owner of a bookshop in Koblenz's old town since 1983 .

Heimes has been a writer since the mid-1970s. He also became known nationwide with the book “I have always only seen the fence” (1992), which describes the history of the Cochem-Bruttig concentration camp (a satellite camp of the Natzweiler-Struthof concentration camp ) and the like. a. reconstructed on the basis of eyewitness reports. The book, which has since been published in several changed and expanded editions, is today the standard work on the subject of the Cochem satellite camp. The author Ernst Heimes has been dealing with the concentration camps on the Moselle since the mid-1980s. As a proven expert, he has brought his knowledge of this to the public in several hundred events and school readings. This was followed by the books “Jude in Lehmen” (1993), “Schattenmenschen” (1996), “The night goes to fetch colors” (1998) and “The goal of our longing is far” (2004). In autumn 2004 the play “Shadows of People” was created, which was premiered on September 24, 2005 by the Koblenz youth theater. In September 2011, his play “Mirjam Ghettokind” about the Theresienstadt ghetto and the Brundibar children's opera was performed in the courtyard of Fort Konstantin, Koblenz, in a large-scale open-air version.

Lecture and reading trips have taken him to other European countries as well as to Israel and Palestine .

In addition to his writing activity, Heimes appeared with changing cabaret programs all over Germany from 1988 to 2001, including many years with the cabaret artist Andreas Klein in the cabaret formation "Rohr clogged".
