Ernst Kaiser (mathematician)

Ernst Kaiser (born May 13, 1907 in Rorschach , † April 25, 1978 in Bern ) was a Swiss mathematician . He is generally considered the mathematical father of old-age and survivors' insurance (AHV).

Live and act

After attending school in Rorschach and St. Gallen , he studied mathematics in Geneva and Lausanne from 1927 to 1931 . He received his doctorate in Geneva in 1950.

From 1931 to 1941 Kaiser worked for the League of Nations in Geneva. In 1942 he moved to the Federal Census Bureau, today's Federal Statistical Office . From 1943 until his retirement and beyond until his death, he worked at the Federal Social Insurance Office . He laid the mathematical foundation for the AHV, played a key role in the introduction of mandatory disability insurance and the 2nd pillar , and also contributed to the further development of health, accident and disability insurance.

From 1966 he was a private lecturer at the ETH Zurich . In 1973 he was appointed adjunct professor. He died in 1978 after attending a meeting of the Council of States committee meeting for the preliminary discussion of the law on the 2nd pillar in Bern.
