Ernst Reissner ., Gel Reissner (born September 12 . Jul / 24. September  1824 greg. In Riga , † September 4 jul. / 16th September  1878 greg. On Castle Ruhenthal in Kurland ) was a Baltic German physician and anatomist .

Act

Reissner completed his studies in 1851 at the University of Tartu (then still University of Dorpat). He later taught as a professor of anatomy for several years before retiring in 1875 for health reasons. He looked for relaxation in the country, but died three years later.

Ernst Reissner's main fields of work were the ear and hair development. He was mainly known for his anatomical work on the ear. Through his work, u. a. groundbreaking insights were also gained at that time on the embryos of birds and cattle. So he could u. a. create an accurate representation of the cochlea for the first time . The Reissner membrane was named in his honor .

Another structure named after him is the Reissner thread starting from the sub-commissural organ of the brain , which runs through the internal liquor spaces to the end of the central canal in the spinal cord.
