Ernst Schaumann (born September 16, 1943 in Hamburg ) is a German chemist .

Life

Schaumann, born as the son of a businessman and graduate chemist , studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg from 1963 to 1970 and received his doctorate in 1970 under Wolfgang Walter with "Investigations on the geometric isomerism of thioamides and thiohydroxamic acids" . Following his habilitation on "Contributions to the Chemistry of Thioketenes " in 1976, he went to the University of Oregon as a postdoc in 1977 .

During his time as Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Hamburg in 1977 to 1990 he was in 1980, visiting professor at the University of Wisconsin and in 1986 a visiting professor of the University of California, Irvine . He was also visiting professor at the Australian National University , Canberra.

From 1990 to 2009, Schaumann was a professor at the Technical University of Clausthal . From 2000 to 2002 he was rector and then until 2004 president of the TU Clausthal.

His research area is the synthesis of natural carbon compounds with biological effectiveness.
