Ernst Sigmund

Ernst Sigmund (born April 27, 1946 in Eßlingen am Neckar ; † February 23, 2015 ) was a German physicist .

Sigmund received his doctorate in 1974 and habilitated in theoretical physics in 1980. He taught in Stuttgart until 1993 and took over the chair for theoretical physics at the Brandenburg Technical University in Cottbus . In 1994 he became dean of the faculty of mathematics, natural sciences and computer science. From 1996 to 2006 he was university president there. In 2003 he founded the company Wankel SuperTec GmbH in Cottbus.

Sigmund dealt with transport theory in low-dimensional systems, electronics in molecular structures and high-temperature superconductivity in ceramic materials. He published 170 articles in specialist journals and received two honorary doctorates.
