Ernst Stiefel (painter)

Ernst Stiefel (born June 14, 1892 in Zumikon , † July 13, 1952 in Zurich ) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist. He painted figures, landscapes and still lifes . Stiefel's works have been exhibited at the Kunsthaus Zürich , among others .

Life

Ernst Stiefel was born in Zurich in 1892 as the son of Heinrich Stiefel. His father was the deputy head of street lighting at the city gas works. Initially, Stiefel attended a special school because of a language handicap, where his teacher Zollinger taught him oil painting , among other things . After leaving school, he also worked in the municipal gas works and painted in his spare time. In February 1916 he exhibited two landscape paintings at the Kunsthaus Zurich, which were positively discussed in the press: they betrayed an intimate feeling for nature .
