Ernst Strohschneider (born September 6, 1886 in Aussig , Bohemia , Austria-Hungary ; † March 20 or 21, 1918 near Motta di Livenza , Italy ) was an officer and fighter pilot of the Austro-Hungarian aviation troops in the First World War .

At the beginning of the war, Strohschneider was a lieutenant in the reserve in the 28th Infantry Regiment of the Austro-Hungarian Army and was initially deployed on the front against Serbia . After being wounded, he was transferred to the 42nd Infantry Regiment that fought in the Carpathian Mountains on the Eastern Front . In February 1915 he was wounded again and on his return to service he was given command of a machine gun division in the same regiment. His third wounding took place in September, as a result of which the straw cutter was no longer fit for front use and volunteered to report to the aviation troops.

Straw cutter was trained as an observer and assigned to the Flik 23 Fliegerkompanie in Trentino under the command of Heinrich Kostrba . Its tasks were reconnaissance flights and bombing raids. His next unit was the Flik 28 Fliegerkompanie on the Isonzo Front . Soon after his assignment to Flik 28 , he received flight training and was transferred to Fluggeschwader 1 , later the large aircraft company Flik 101G , to Divacco . There he escorted large aircraft in bombing raids with a Hansa-Brandenburg DI . In August 1917, Strohschneider was transferred again, this time to the Flik 42J fighter pilot company on the Isonzo front. It was here that he achieved most of his aerial victories.

In January 1918, Strohschneider took over command of the Flik 61J fighter pilot company near Motta di Livenza . Shortly thereafter, he took over a second command with Flik 63J after its commander was seriously injured in an accident.

On the night of March 20-21, Strohschneider led a group of five aircraft in a bombing raid on Italian positions near Zenson . On his return, Strohschneider died when his plane crash-landed.
