Ernst Ulrich Buff (born April 17, 1873 in Sitterdorf ; † April 4, 1931 in Hansa-Humboldt ( Brazil )) was a Swiss merchant and life reformer .

Life

Ernst Ulrich Buff trained as an embroidery businessman and was a partner in his father's company from 1899 to 1908, which he took over in 1915. The company was liquidated from 1922 to 1928 . From 1905 to 1908 he was a councilor in Herisau .

In 1907/1908 he had the Villa Nieschberg (also Villa Buff ) built in Herisau by the Cologne architect H. Grunwald as a life-reforming building with a tower with a windmill and terraces for sun and air baths. At that time he was in contact with the Ticino Monte Verità movement. In the 1930s it was run as a naturopathic institute. Since 1972 the building has housed the reintegration home for drug-endangered people, Best Hope . In the course of repairs in 1977 the tower was cut by about half.

Buff also founded the worry-free school of life . The founding of the Herisau Naturopathic Association and the Herisau Association for People's Welfare can also be traced back to his initiatives.

His estate is in the Appenzell Ausserrhoden State Archives.
