Ernst White (singer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ernst Weiß , also Ernst Weis ( April 12, 1828 in Coburg - July 26, 1871 in Braunschweig ) was a German opera singer ( baritone / tenor ), actor and theater director .

Life

Weiß entered the stage in Riga as a baritone and sang tenor roles there with great success. But he lacked higher, systematic vocal training. Then he won the favor of the Duke of Coburg, and the latter sent him to Munich to study with Pellegrini. His voice gained tremendously under this training, and since he also had excellent acting talent, he did his mentor credit. His next engagement was in Nuremberg, from there he came to Stettin, Königsberg, Hanover and Hamburg. In 1858 he was invited to a guest performance at the court theater in Braunschweig. He made his debut as "Don Carlos" and was so extremely popular that the duke decided to join him immediately. There he became the darling of the public, but did everything possible to earn this favor. He worked with great zeal in Braunschweig, where he was also appointed director of the opera in 1869. He died on July 26, 1871.

His wife Bertha Weiß , née Koch, also worked in Braunschweig from 1858 to 1892 and made a name for herself as an opera singer and actress.

reception

“He left the best souvenir. W. met all the requirements both in performing classical singing roles and in performing operas in a noble and perfect manner. "
