Ernst von Velen

Ernst von Velen (* 1600 ; † August 9, 1627 ) was canon in Münster and Paderborn.

Life

Ernst von Velen of grew up as a son of Alexander von Velen and his wife Agnes of Leerodt († 1624) together with his siblings Alexander (1599-1675, Imperial Field Marshall), Maria (1601-1624) and Agnes Alexandrine in the Westphalian noble family of Velen on . Ernst had studied at the university in Paris and, after submitting his certificate of study, received the cathedral priest in Münster , which his brother Alexander had renounced in 1621 . On July 31, 1627 he was also canon in Paderborn . Ernst received approval for a study trip to Italy. There he met the Cardinal von Hohenzollern . On the way back to Germany he was attacked by privateers and murdered on August 9, 1627.
