Erol Taş

Erol Taş (born February 28, 1926 in Karaköse , Erzurum , † November 8, 1998 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish actor .

Life

Erol Taş came to Istanbul as a toddler after the death of his father and worked in various professions. As an amateur boxer, he later won several prizes. He lost his first wife Hafize after an illness in August 1965. This marriage had three children. Taş later married Elmas Erşan with whom he had a child. In 1998 Taş died of a heart attack.

He was discovered by the Turkish film director Ömer Lütfi Akad . He made a film, the set of which Taş and some friends visited after work and watched the filming. Meanwhile, there was a fight with other men who had been harassing the film crew. Akad liked Taş's physical effort, so he hired him for a movie brawl. At first he played minor extras and supporting roles. Erol Taş appeared in over 600 films, mostly as the villain of the stories. He only played the leading role in a total of six films. His last film is from 1992.

One of his trademarks was his bulbous nose. In Istanbul he ran the “Kultur Merkez”, a café in the city center, until his death.

At the Antalya Film Festival he won the award for best male supporting actor from 1965 to 1968 and 1975.
