Ömer Lütfi Akad
Ömer Lütfi Akad (born September 2, 1916 in Istanbul ; † November 19, 2011 there ) was an important Turkish film director and screenwriter . He was the bearer of the highest cultural awards in the country.
Life
Akad first attended the Lycée Français Saint Michel and then the renowned Galatasaray high school . He studied finance at Marmara University and completed military service. He then worked in the Ottoman Bank , later as the financial officer of the production company Lale Film. In the 1940s he published several articles on cinema and theater and worked as a consultant for Sema Films. He also taught at the Mimar Sinan University .
Akad made more than 100 films between 1948 and 1974 and is considered an outstanding filmmaker in his country; he began to reform Turkish cinema. His best-known films include Hudutların kanunu (1966), Düğün (1973) and Gelin (1973).
Awards
- 1967: Golden Orange Award (in the Best National Film category) at the Antalya Film Festival for Hudutlarin kanunu
- 1968: Second prize at the Antalya Film Festival for Vesikalı Yarim
- 1974: Golden Orange Award (in the Best National Film category) at the Antalya Film Festival for Düğün
- 1988: Culture Prize from the Turkish Ministry of Culture
- 1997: Culture Prize of the President of Turkey
