Erol Zavar

Erol Zavar (* 1964 in Zonguldak , Turkey) is a former editor-in-chief of the Kurdish magazine ODAK .

On June 27, 2001 he was sentenced to death by the 2nd State Security Court in Ankara for membership in the illegal resistance organization Direniş Hareketi and for attempting to overturn the constitutional order by force, in accordance with Art. 146 I old version of the Turkish Penal Code . The sentence was commuted to life imprisonment and Zavar was imprisoned in Ankara Type F prison .

Since Zavar has bladder cancer, his family argues that the sentence should be suspended for someone who is critically ill. They launched the suspend Zavar sentence to get Zavar out of prison and give him the best possible medical treatment.
