Friedrich Pfeiffer (engineer)

Friedrich Pfeiffer (born February 22, 1935 in Wiesbaden ) is a German engineer .

life and work

His scientific contribution in the field of dynamics and control of mechanical systems is considered significant. From 1982 until his retirement in 2000 he was full professor and professor for mechanics at the Technical University of Munich .

After graduating from high school in 1955 at the Zietenring secondary school in Wiesbaden, Pfeiffer studied general mechanical engineering at the TH Darmstadt . In 1965 he did his doctorate with Günther Bock in the field of aerodynamics on downdraft corrections for wings of any sweep in open and closed circular wind tunnels with a base plate .

In 1966 he joined the development department of the space manufacturer Bölkow GmbH (later MBB ) in Ottobrunn . He was with the company for 16 years. In 1973, he turned down a temporary call to the newly founded University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg .

Pfeiffer only returned to the university in 1982 and was appointed full professor and professor of mechanics at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, succeeding Kurt Magnus . From 1993 to 1995 he was a member of the university's senate. He was retired on March 31, 2000.
