Appearance Window

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An apparition window is a structural element in an ancient Egyptian royal palace , from which the pharaoh showed himself to the subjects and distributed gifts. It consisted of a balcony with a padded parapet and was shaded by a canopy . The window of appearance is shown in images from private graves of the 18th dynasty , but has not yet been archaeologically proven.

In the millennia of Thebes , an apparition window opened from the cult palace into the temple forecourt in front of it. It was splendidly decorated on the courtyard side with royal emblems and had an access staircase on the palace side.

It probably had a purely cultic function as "heaven" and cultic connections to the valley festival .
